Irish-German actor Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past) takes on the title role of the power-hungry Scottish general in the retelling of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

In an earlier Anglo post, Fassbender talked about director Justin Kurzel giving his film adaptation a modern perspective, suggesting Macbeth suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Rather than focusing on Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s (Marion Cotillard) ambitious ways, the story examines the losses they’ve suffered, which drive the power couple to take unthinkable actions.

You can watch the dark and haunting trailer below:

Macbeth is set to be released in the U.K. on October 2, 2015.

Does the clip give Shakespeare a new feel?
