Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) is the last man on earth, or so he thinks, in the film adaptation of American author Robert C. Obrien‘s 1974 novel Z for Zachariah.
Ejiofor portrays a man named Loomis who has survived a worldwide disaster and has been traveling solo in a hazmat suit. He discovers a patch of land that appears to be safe, removing his suit to breathe clean air. He thought he was alone, but a young woman (Margot Robbie) reluctantly comes to his aid when she sees him bathing in contaminated water.
The two hit it off and enjoy some sweet moments, but they’re living on borrowed time. Things get a little rocky when a third person (Chris Pine) shows up.
Isn’t that always the case? Three’s a crowd as seen in the below trailer:
We might think, “Well, who else is going to show up?” But as of now, Ejiofor, Robbie, and Pine are the only actors listed as cast members of the film.
Z for Zachariah hits U.S. theaters on August 21, 2015.
