Emma Watson’s star continues to rise, set to appear opposite one of Hollwyood’s heavy hitters Tom Hanks in the technological thriller The Circle.
It was just announced today (June 25) that Watson is confirmed to star in the film adaptation of Dave Eggers‘ novel by the same name, reports ComingSoon.net.
The novel just came out in 2013, revolving around a recent college graduate (Watson) who lands a job at a powerful tech company. She starts off in customer service but quickly advances through the ranks.
According to the novel’s description, one of the products that her company has produced is called SeeChange, which is a camera that people wear all day. The footage filmed is broadcast to the public, providing full transparency.
Not everyone is expected to wear SeeChange, but it’s meant more for public figures like politicians. But as the young techie’s role at the company grows, so does her visibility, and she opts to don a SeeChange camera omitting her anonymity.
James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, Shameless) is set to write and direct the film, and talked about casting Watson in a released statement, saying, “Emma Watson is one of my favorite actors, and her incredible talent, sensitivity, and deep intelligence will bring an electric energy to The Circle.”
The thriller is scheduled to be released in 2016.
Watson is set to star as Belle in the live-action Beauty and the Beast (2017). She’s completed filming on Regression, a psychological thriller, set to come out in August 2015.
