This is lovely. The cast of Downton Abbey were recently interviewed by PBS and asked, in the light of recent announcements that the show will finish at the end of the next season, how they would like their own character’s story arc to come to its final resting spot.

Each has their own theory, with Hugh Bonneville favoring a fast exit from family responsibilities for Lord Grantham. Leslie Nicol would like Mrs. Patmore to settle down into a nice community, Laura Carmichael wants Edith to stay abreast of her times, Robert-James Collier wants Thomas to find passion, and Phyllis Logan wants Mrs. Hughes to go out in a blaze of glory:

One can only speculate what Maggie Smith would like the Dowager Countess to do next, but it’s tempting to conclude it might involve not answering any more impudent questions for a kick-off.
