This clip requires no context, no back-story and no explanation. It is simply Professor Stephen Hawking—by some distance the most famous scientist in the world—singing Monty Python’s “Galaxy Song” as only he can, interspersed with footage taken from Monty Python’s illustrious back catalogue, with particular emphasis given to their recent live reunion shows.

Oh and Professor Brian Cox is in there too, for good measure.

PS: Should you require a little more in the way of hard facts: 1,000 copies of the song are being released on limited edition vinyl for Record Store Day on April 18, with a download being available to buy as of this week. There is also the chance to play the classic arcade game Asteroids as Stephen Hawking, at the Monty Python website.

Why? Because it’s silly, obviously.
