Prone to hyperbole we may be, but this trailer is entirely delightful and should definitely be experienced at your earliest convenience.
The Lady in the Van is the movie adaptation of Alan Bennett’s (The Madness of King George, The History Boys) play about a certain Miss Shepherd, a woman who genuinely did come and live in a van on his front driveway for 15 years. It stars Dame Maggie Smith at her irascable best, who already made this part her own in the successful stage version.
As it’s a true story that happened to the person writing it, Alex Jennings plays the younger Alan Bennett (the story takes place in the ’70s and ’80s), with a supporting cast that features some of British theatre’s finest talents: Roger Allam, Frances de la Tour, Jim Broadbent, James Corden and Dominic Cooper.
The Lady in the Van hits British theaters on November 13.
