Director Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Round Table has kicked off filming, and Ritchie was keen to tweet a photo of himself and Charlie Hunnam.

Ritchie’s full-on beard in the below photo might be a little misleading, he looks as if he might be in character and starring in the period film, but he’s strictly behind the scenes this time around.

Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) on the other hand, takes on the lead role of King Arthur.

Here’s a peek at the fellas on the first day of filming:

There are many legendary tales of the sixth century king, with Ritchie pulling from Thomas Mallory’s 1485 Le Morte d’ Arthur as source material, reports ComingSoon.net.

Knights of the Round Table is expected to open on July 22, 2016.

We can look forward to seeing Hunnam in the 2015 release of Crimson Peak, also starring Tom Hiddleston. And The Lost City of Z out in 2016.

Can you picture Charlie Hunnam as a royal?
