Karen Gillan may have been a little quiet since Selfie ended, but two recent news stories have emerged that suggest she’s going to have another busy year.

She told the Daily Record that she’s a little bit nervous at the prospect of a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, in case she is once again required to cut all her hair off in order to play Nebula again:

“I have a physical and emotional attachment to this hair. We’ll have to see if I have to shave it. Maybe CGI will have developed further by the time we shoot it.”

Then there’s the new period drama being planned by HBO that concerns itself with the 17th century witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts. Deadline reports they are casting a pilot episode with the working title of The Devil You Know, based on a script that was co-written by Jenji Kohan (Weeds, Orange is the New Black) with Bruce Miller and Tracy Miller.

The most interesting aspect of all this is that the cast is particularly well stocked with notable talents from the British Isles and Ireland. Eddie Izzard is on board, as are Damien Molony (of Being Human fame), Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting), Julian Rhind Tutt (The Hour), Matthew James Thomas (Billy Elliott), Nigel Lindsay (Four Lions) and Kate Nash (yes, THAT Kate Nash).

Karen will also be joining the fun, playing Jane Porter, youngest daughter of Ewan Bremner’s Israel Porter.

Assuming all goes well with the pilot, they’ll be joined in a regular series by Ever Carradine, Nadia Alexander, Ismenia Mendes and Hannah Nordberg. The idea is to recreate a community at war with itself, one in which faith and reason curl around one another like angry snakes.

Julian plays the judgemental Puritan Minister Samuel Parris, who seeks to twist and inflame local superstitions and suspicions in order to carve a fundamental role for himself. In doing so, he helps to create an air of hysteria in the community which has appalling consequences.

Definitely one to keep an eye on.
