Simon Pegg will be pulling double-duty on the third installment of the Star Trek film series, set to co-write and star, reports BBC News.

Pegg’s official Twitter account, moderated by Harmony Carrigan, has confirmed the assignment:

He and TV writer Doug Jung (Dark Blue) will be taking over the writing responsibilities; with Pegg also returning to revise his role as Enterprise engineer Montgomery Scott, better known as “Scotty.”

Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious) will step in as director with J.J. Abrams no longer on deck.

This isn’t Pegg’s first time helming a script, with 23 writing credits that include the hugely popular action comedies like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.

Let’s not forget, Star Trek: The Next Generation, starring fan favorite Patrick Stewart, had some fun and funny moments, as seen in the below fan-made clip:

Do you think Pegg’s humor will make its way into the script?
