U.K. fans of Derek said farewell to the Ricky Gervais-created character over the Christmas period, with an hour-long finale special that aired on Channel 4 on December 22. But viewers in the U.S. and other countries, where the show is a Netflix exclusive, are having to wait a little bit longer to see it — however, Gervais has announced that to make up for the delay, when the special is released internationally in 2015, it’ll be in an extended edition.

Gervais made the announcement on his blog, where he declared that he thinks the extended special is “even better” than the U.K. broadcast version. He’s also “not sure on the launch date, but should know very soon.” To whet your appetite, here’s the teaser trailer for the finale:

Gervais also outlined some of his other plans for 2015 in the same blog post. In the first part of the year he’ll be making the movie Special Correspondents, directing and writing it as well as starring alongside Eric Bana. And after that, it’s on to the long-awaited David Brent movie, Life on the Road  — a project that might well leave fans of Derek Noakes hoping that even after the standard “two seasons and a special” format Gervais likes to stick to, there may still be some kind of further future for the character…
