Apparently not everyone is a fan of New Year’s Eve celebrations. HBO’s John Oliver actually embraces his disdain for the holiday, and gives us some examples on how to get out of get-togethers with some unique excuses like a juice cleanse.

Oliver, whose show Last Week Tonight is currently on hiatus, takes some time out of his break to check in with viewers via YouTube. He kicks off the below video with some very honest feelings about ending the year, and starting 2015, saying, “New Year’s Eve is like the death of a pet. You know it’s going to happen, but somehow you’re never truly prepared for how awful it is.”

Wow, what do you really think John?

Actually, we can’t blame him, New Year’s Eve celebrations can be crowded, awkward, and hard to get home from.

If you are so inclined to have a quiet New Year’s Eve, and stay home this year, Oliver has come up with some strategic ways to get out of plans, which you can watch below:

What are your plans for NYE this year? Or, in this case, non-plans?
