Sotheby’s auction house in London, England, has put a selection of annotated first edition books on display with illustrations from Peggy Fortnum, Raymond Briggs, Quentin Blake, Judith Kerr, and Terry Gilliam, just to name a handful of contributors. The charity auction, First Editions: Redrawn, asks some of Britain’s most beloved illustrators (and a few authors) “to re-engage with first editions of their work,” adding notes and new drawings.
Surely you recognize the popular bear above, and Roald Doahl‘s The BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory below. The auction will take place on December 8, with 38 pieces of work on exhibit, and the funds raised will go to House of Illustration. Here is a catalog of the books and drawings up for auction, and the price guide. You can place an early bid the night before, or day of, by calling Sotheby’s directly.
