Colin Morgan (Merlin) is making his way back to U.S. television, starring in the remake of the Swedish sci-fi drama Real Humans.

Renamed Humans, the series is being co-produced by Channel 4 and AMC, which will air in both the U.K. and U.S. in 2015.

Morgan stars opposite The IT Crowd’s Katherine Parkinson and American actor William Hurt (The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby).

The story is set in suburban London, taking place in a parallel present. The latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a Synth, which is a highly developed, artificially intelligent servant eerily similar to its living counterpart.

It’s too soon to say what roles the actors will be playing, but the below trailer for the original gives us some insight on what to expect; and it seems like some of the robots might fill other needs besides housekeeping.

In the below video a young man’s robot friend is stolen, repackaged, and sold to an unsuspecting family. Her former owner doesn’t back down in trying to find her:

Do you think robots have the potential to develop feelings?
