In another career move designed to appeal to an audience beyond that of the younger Whovians, Karen Gillan has signed up to appear in a bloody revenge western, a world away from her Doctor Who cowboy story A Town Called Mercy.
In a Valley of Violence will be the second movie Karen has made for Blumhouse Productions, the first being the recently-released horror Oculus.
She joins Ethan Hawke, John Travolta and Taissa Farmiga in the story of a drifter (Hawke) turning up in a small town in the 1890s, ready to find and punish the people who murdered his best friend. Karen and Taissa play sisters that run the local hotel.
The script comes from Blumhouse regular Ti West, who will also direct, and the shoot begins in late June.
