Tom Ellis, who portrayed Miranda Hart’s crush Gary Preston on the BBC1 comedy Miranda, stars in the USA Network pilot Rush, reports RadioTimes.
Ellis had hinted at the move in January 2013 when talking to the Sunday Mirror after the Miranda season three finale saying, “Now filming is finished I’m going to go and do pilot season in L.A. early next year. It feels like a natural progression.”
Miranda creator and writer, Hart, wasn’t going to let “Gary” runaway to la la land without having a say on it, quickly turning around this tweet:
Mr Ellis is not necessarily right that there will be no more show. @tomellis17 are you trying to put me out of work?!

Oh Miranda, that’s why we love you.
While there may be some love-loss in the U.K., Ellis seemed keen to shed his goody two-shoes persona seen on Miranda, describing his new character to the RadioTimes saying, “He’s not a bad guy … he just does some bad things sometimes.”
Ellis isn’t giving his character Dr. William Rush enough credit. Rush, a Harvard-educated ER doctor, does some really bad things a lot of the time. He dips into the medical cabinet, helping himself to prescriptions, and selling them off-the-record to people who are willing to pay the hiked up prices.
If that weren’t enough, he uses his skill and access as a doctor to help cover up for high-profile people who do some dastardly deeds.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of what to expect:
The pilot has yet to be given a release date.
What would Miranda say about this new bad boy image?
