British actress Keira Knightley is on screen playing American characters in both the just released Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, as well as in the drama Laggies which has just had its premiere at Sundance.
Preparing to get the accent right in Laggies didn’t prove too burdensome for the actress because she shot it after Jack Ryan, which had given her the opportunity to practice. “I did two days with a dialogue coach just to get it back into the system,” said Knightley.
On the red carpet the actress explained the story at the heart of Laggies. She said: “The film is about a 28-year-old woman who can’t figure out her life and suddenly her boyfriend proposes. It completely freaks her out, and she goes on a bit of a holiday where she befriends a 16-year-old and reverts back to being 16 for a week.”
The British actress is best known for her film work, but she’d like to work on another stage production. “I’m definitely going to do it again—I don’t know whether the next one will be on Broadway or in London or where it will be—but I definitely want to do one,” she says.
