Christoph Waltz and David Thewlis in ‘The Zero Theorem’

The trailer for Terry Gilliam’s latest movie The Zero Theorem has been released, and, like his previous triumphs Brazil and 12 Monkeys, it throws a mundane reality against a fantastical dream, set in a futuristic dystopia. Only this time, there are Brit-thesp favorites like David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Tilda Swinton (We Need To Talk About Kevin)  and Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) along for the ride. And so is Matt Damon.

Christoph Waltz plays a computer expert with an existential crisis and a crush on Mélanie Thierry. He lives in a city with the brash neon extremes of Toyko and the dreary beaurocracy of a county town in the provinces, where there’s not enough money to fix the holes in the road but plenty to spend on advertisements that talk.

You could call it a futuristic society, but if it is, it’s only half an hour forwards and a couple of steps to the left.

There’s no US theater release date as yet, but should the worse come to the worst, keep an eye on your streaming services for further details.
