Back in July, pictures emerged of the cast of David O. Russell’s 1970s tale of sleaze and corruption, American Hustle, in which Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper, two very good looking men, appear to have undergone some kind of colossal enfrumpification process.
You could say it’s to do with the fashions of the day, but looking at this new trailer, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence seem to have got away relatively unscathed, while Bradley is seen rocking hair curlers, and the less said about Christian’s paunch, the better.
Of course, it’s a true story, concerning the FBI’s Abscam sting, and that’s what the people involved really looked like. But surely there’s a special award at the Oscars for actors who are willing to take their art to these extremes? And if there isn’t, there should be.
