If you’ve never seen BBC children’s series Horrible Histories, then you’re missing out on a treat: it’s an informative and hugely entertaining historical sketch show, ostensibly aimed at kids but with a level of sharp wit that makes it just as entertaining for parents (or even for grown-ups without kids who just want to watch it anyway).

While the fifth and final series recently finished its broadcast run, some of the team behind it have already moved on to new ventures – and the first to come along is Yonderland, a new fantasy-based sitcom for digital channel Sky One.

Yonderland is written by, and stars, Histories alumni Mathew Baynton, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond. It will tell the story of an ordinary woman named Debbie Maddox (Howe-Douglas), who – in classic fantasy adventure tradition – unexpectedly finds herself thrown into an extraordinary world inhabited by a collection of eccentric characters. Oh, and some of the characters just happen to be puppets. Here’s the first-look trailer that Sky have just released :

Yonderland looks set to follow in the footsteps of Horrible Histories‘ proud tradition of providing clever and yet downright silly fun for all the family. The show is set to hit U.K. screens later this year.
