Benedict Cumberbatch Set to Appear on ‘Top Gear’

Cumberbatch contemplates how dull life must be with an ordinary name. (BBC)

“Yes, but who exactly is The Stig?” (BBC)

Is that the sound of demographics noisily converging I hear? Are the massed ranks of Cumberbabes about to invade the manly environs of Top Gear?

Well, yes.

On Monday July 22 at 8:30 pm/7:30c on BBC AMERICA, Benedict Cumberbatch — Sherlock himself — will be Top Gear’s star in a reasonably-priced car. Which of course means a bit of an interview, probably some chat about his astonishingly full schedule, and a lap of the Top Gear race course in this year’s car: a 1.6 Tech Line Vauxhall Astra.

As things stand currently, he will need to go faster than Brian Johnson, the lead singer from AC/DC, who managed a lap in 1:45.1.

Knowing how busy he is, I wouldn’t put it past him to get around in a minute and spend the extra 45 seconds shooting a movie.

What do you think Benedict’s time will be? Post your predictions below:
