Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness

The thing you have to realise about all of the Star Trek Into Darkness trailer clips doing the rounds (we’re up to a remarkable 65% of the internet now), is that they are simply fulfilling a need. When the movie finally opens in two weeks – which is just long enough to release another nivety-threlve trailers – we’ll stop talking about what is going to happen in the film and just flipping well watch it.

Until then, we shall all continue to stare, enthralled* as the not-so-secret weapon of the movie’s imminent success – one B. Cumberbatch esq. – gets to say nasty things to Captain Kirk in a voice that is basically the sonic equivalent of lava running down a mountainside towards a town –  if lava was a) witheringly contemptuous and b) sexy.

Like here, in this special clip:

* It’s either that or trying to piece the whole movie together from bits of trailer, like a great big video jigsaw puzzle.
