Dame Maggie Smith: I’ve Never Seen ‘Downton Abbey’
Dame Maggie Smith sits down for an interview with ’60 Minutes’ correspondent Steve Kroft.
Dame Maggie Smith does whatever Dame Maggie Smith pleases. The two-time Oscar winner has never picked up any of the Golden Globes or Emmys she’s won for her role as the formidable, wit-dispensing Dowager Countess on the hit PBS Masterpiece series Downton Abbey, and she probably never will. And guess what? They’ll probably give her the awards every year she’s in contention. Because she’s Dame Maggie Smith.
Well, 60 Minutes‘s Steve Kroft did manage to reel her in for a rare on-camera interview, which will air this Sunday (February 17). When Kroft asks her if she’s proud of Downton Abbey, she provides us with a pause so pregnant, it’s having triplets. And she makes a startling admission that only she could get away with:
