Anne Hathaway sat down with pal Chelsea Handler to talk about her new movie Les Miserables (December 25) on Handler’s late night show Chelsea Lately. Handler prodded Hathaway to share her story about a run-in with Skyfall star Daniel Craig. Here’s a clip of Hathaway telling Handler how it went down.
Anne Hathaway telling Daniel Craig story to Chelsea Handler
It turns out it wasn’t quite that blatant of an “eff” off. To backtrack, it was one of Hathaway’s first Hollywood dinner parties where she ran into Craig. The space hadn’t quite filled up yet when Craig entered the room and the two made eye contact.
He was a few tables away and said to her, “Hey, you. F*ck you.”
Hathaway was pretty surprised that he recognized her being new to the scene. She jokingly told Handler, “I was like, ‘Oh my Gawd! I have just instantly become so famous that Daniel Craig is messing with me and we don’t even know each other.”
Rather than being offended she plays along, telling Handler, “So of course I’m like, pfft. ‘F*ck you.”
They go back and forth a few rounds upping each other each time with more and more vulgar hand signs.
Until … oh my … he wasn’t talking to her. Gasp. The horror.
He turns to Hathaway and says, “Oh no, no, not you.” Apparently he was goofing around with fellow Brit Stephen Daldry, director of Billy Elliot, who was sat right behind Hathaway.
Hathaway announced to Handler, “That’s when I realized I’m just an idiot!”
Oy. That’s definitely embarrassing but it makes a zinger of a story.
