Whether a planned TV pilot about an emergency room doctor gets picked up to go to series on NBC may depend on the luck of the Irish. Make that Irishman, as in Eoin Macken, the hunksome actor who plays Sir Gwaine on BBC America’s Merlin.
Deadline.com reports that the Merlin star has been cast as TC Callahan, the lead role in the pilot for a possible hour-long series, After Hours. The character is a strong-willed former Army physician new to a job working the overnight shift at an ER in a San Antonio hospital.
Macken, born in Dublin, came to acting following a successful early career as a top male model. His face and impressive physique were prominently featured in ad campaigns for Abercrombie & Fitch and Braun.
In addition to his role on Merlin, which recently began airing its fifth season on BBC in England, Macken earlier this month completed shooting on Cold, a film he directed in Ireland. A drama about two brothers, its cast includes Macken’s Merlin costar, Tom Hopper, who plays Sir Percival on the popular series.
Macken previously directed a horror film, The Inside (2010), which is scheduled to open in the U.K. this coming January, and three other low-budget movies.Read More
