Sunday, September 9, was the last day of competition for the 2012 Paralympic Games with Coldplay closing the ceremony and extinguishing the flame. Ellie Simmons, Jonnie Peacock, Jay-Z and Rihanna rounded out the musical line-up, reports The Guardian. Prior to the performance the Festival of the Flame paid tribute to the 70,000 Games Makers and the armed forces who provided aid with security, resulting in a standing ovation.
2012 Paralympic Closing Ceremony
Great Britain held the second place spot with total medals at the Paralympics, and third in gold medals. China came in first place with both total medals and total gold medals. The Russian Federation came in third place in total medals. The United States ended the competition in fourth place in total medals. The Official Site of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games lists the results in their entirety. The Olympic and Paralympic victory parade will travel across London today, September 10, celebrating the success of the 2012 Games.
