Former ‘Doctor Who’ Star Cast in ‘Thor’ Sequel
Christopher Eccleston gets his villain on! Best known for playing the Ninth Doctor on Doctor Who, he will star as Malekith the Accursed in Thor: The Dark World scheduled to be released November 8, 2013, reports Deadline.
Eccleston has made big screen appearances in films like Shallow Grave, the debut film from director Danny Boyle; 28 Days Later, also directed by Boyle; and G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra. He joins BBC America’s Luther star Idris Elba, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston (BBC America Anglo Fan Favorite Winner!), Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi and Stellan Skarsgard in the sequel.
Marvel.com describes Malekith as the ruler of the Dark Elves who reside in Svartalfheim, one of Asgard’s Nine Realms. Malekith mastered sorcery, making him a formidable ally to the other enemies of Asgard. He formed an alliance with the god of mischief Loki on behalf of Surtur. Not long after that agreement, he used a special food provided to him by Hela. The food contained some sort of magic, which gave him control of the humans of Earth.
Thor: The Dark World is the eighth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures.
