WATCH: Idris Elba Says ‘Prometheus’ Is No ‘Alien’ Prequel

Luther fans can see Idris Elba in his highest-profile film to date playing the spaceship captain in director Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi thriller Prometheus.
“The role is a big role in a big story. It’s hugely exciting,” he says.
Just to get the facts straight Elba insists the new film is not an Alien prequel as many have speculated.
He says: “The DNA of Alien is within this film — but it’s not a prequel.”
He goes on to explain that the emphasis of the film isn’t on aliens but more on mankind’s origins.
Prometheus brought Elba into contact with Ridley Scott, a filmmaker with whom he’s worked before. The actor maintains in the future he’d like to be doing what Scott does — and that would mean actually directing films and making stories that are “different.”
