Benedict Cumberbatch: Unlucky in Love

Benedict Cumberbatch = Animal Magnetism

Benedict Cumberbatch, 35, made BBC America’s The Brit List: 20 Sexiest  but claims he’s a wall flower and not all that good with the ladies.

Cumberbatch, who is best known for his title role on Sherlock, recently broke up with his girlfriend of 10 years.

“I’m not confident in social situations, just going up to someone in a bar and saying ‘hi’ is going to be even more difficult because they won’t know the real me,” Cumberbatch tells the UK Mirror. “They will just know me as a fictional person I play on the screen.”

He sounds like the male version of Bridget Jones — neurotic and unlucky in love —  going on to say he is perplexed with the “the size and shape of my head,” adding, “I’ve been likened to Sid the sloth from Ice Age.” Maybe don’t use that as an opener when meeting someone new. In all honesty, the Brit List’s comedian Katy Brand did compare him to an otter… but a sexy otter.

Cumberbatch plays thinkers as seen in Sherlock, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and War Horse. If women really are basing him on what they see on screen, he comes across as one of those guys who could take it or leave it proving to be a challenge. Sherlock Holmes definitely has his mind on other things than love.

Possibly Cumberbatch’s new villainous role in J.J Abrams’ much anticipated Star Trek 2 will give him that bad boy vibe. We don’t think Cumberbatch will be on the shelf for long.

What do you say — would you pull Benedict Cumberbatch?
