Does Downton Abbey need a Scream Queen? Jamie Lee Curtis, who rose to fame as the star of the original Halloween horror film, told Jay Leno during an appearance this week on The Tonight Show that she is desperate to appear on the hit British drama series, of which she is a huge fan.
“Mr. Bates [Downton’s Brendan Coyle], he rivals Mark Harmon,” she said, referring to the middle-aged sexy star of NCIS, the popular TV series on which she is currently guest starring.
As for actually landing a role on Downton, Curtis said she figured that she had two strikes against her: she’s American and too contemporary for the period show. But if she has her way, those hurdles won’t stop her.
Curtis has a plan for infiltrating Downton, which she revealed to Leno. “I’m going to be in the show in photograph only,” she said, as a head shot of her in Edwardian garb flashed on the screen. (See the photo above.) Her role? She will be Lady Cora’s (Elizabeth McGovern) dead sister, whose demise, at the hands of a serial killer at the Chicago World’s Fair, is discussed and mourned by the Crawley family.
