Tyler Perry‘s films, by turns maudlin, preachy, and broadly comedic, are critic-proof, but he certainly attracts A-list talent, including everyone from Idris Elba and Kathy Bates to Alfre Woodard and Whoopi Goldberg. British actress Thandie Newton, star of his For Colored Girls, re-joins the Perry fold as a single mom falling for a wealthy businessman (Perry) who resides in the building she cleans.
