The Brit List: Oscar Noms, BAFTAs, ‘Underworld Awakening’ (January 20, 2012)
1. Oscar nominations
And of course, Hollywood’s biggest night of the year is a little over a month away. Next Tuesday morning (January 24), actress Jennifer Lawrence and Academy president Tom Sherak will announce this year’s nominations. British actress Tilda Swinton is a likely Best Actress nominee for We Need to Talk About Kevin, and the American-born Meryl Streep is expected to be a favorite to win for playing former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Michael Fassbender could find himself a Best Actor nominee for baring his soul (and private parts) in Shame, and fingers crossed for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy star Gary Oldman, who may finally be invited to the party after a career of appalling snubs. The Oscars will be handed out Sunday, February 26.
