Okay, this one might be familiar to you.
We’re up to Number Three on the countdown of the year’s Top Five Nerdist Podcasts of the Year, leading up to Chris Hardwick‘s latest Nerdist special, The Nerdist: Year in Review, airing Saturday night, Christmas Eve, December 24th at 9/8c on BBC America. In case you missed numbers Four (Wil Wheaton) and Five (the Hostful Podcast featuring Crafts Nerdist Mindy Holahan), I’m the editor of Nerdist.com, and I’m here at Anglophenia to highlight what our readers consider the best five editions of the Nerdist Podcast. But if you’ve been reading Anglophenia all year, you may remember our choice for Number Three, because we’ve talked about it here before.
Back at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Chris and his co-hosts Jonah Ray and Matt Mira did a couple of special live podcasts at 4th and B on July 23rd. Both were great, but the earlier of the two just happened to feature Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. Wil Wheaton joined the panel, someone had a homemade Steven Moffat puppet, and BBC America, which kindly sponsored the event, came through with burritos for the whole audience, served up by Matt and Karen (for the uninitiated, the slogan for the podcast, uttered at the end of each episode, is “Enjoy Your Burrito.” Burritos, in this case, were definitely enjoyed).
Nerdist.com readers say:
“Classic.” — Jason
“I actually had to pull off the side of the road at one point to wipe the tears from my eyes and get my breathing under control.” —
“A completely funny, sweet, energetic episode. Wished it could have gone on for another hour.” — Diana
“The Doctor and Wesley Crusher = Epic.” — Jeff Whaley
“One of the few episodes I’ve listened to twice, including once with my girlfriend. Wil’s crush on Karen never gets old.” — Mike
“It’s nice to hear actors from your favorite shows be the people they are in real life. Also fun to hear them geek-out on each others work, making them even more likeable.” — Don
“It was just so much epicness and hilarity. And then they topped it off with burritos in TARDIS sleeves. How can you beat that?” — Tori
There it is, your Number Three Nerdist Podcast of 2011, Episode 109: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and Wil Wheaton Live at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. If you haven’t heard it yet, go check it out.
Tomorrow: A movie villain wins over the fans on the Number Two Nerdist Podcast of 2011. Join us here for that, and watch the BBC America special on Saturday night at 9/8c.
