Ben Stiller Recreates Classic British Kids TV Show ‘Rentaghost’


I can hardly believe I’m writing this. When I was very young indeed, there was a show on the TV called Rentaghost, about an agency which hired out spooks and spectres for haunting purposes. It was a fun, knockabout kind of show, part fantasy, part panto, with a wild-eyed jester called Timothy Claypole as the centre of attention.

And now it is coming back, as a Hollywood blockbuster, starring Ben Stiller. Seasoned Anglophenians will remember it was originally a project for Russell Brand  (a natural heir to Claypole’s pointy hat if ever there was one, although he was slated to play Fred Mumford, the modern day ghost), but he’s no longer involved.
