WATCH: Crash Survivor Rowan Atkinson Racing on ‘Top Gear’

Rowan Atkinson on 'Top Gear'

Thank the comedy gods for watching over Rowan Atkinson, who, as we noted in today’s news roundup, wrapped his McLaren F1 supercar around a tree in England yesterday (August 4), walking away with a mere shoulder injury before the car itself burst into flames.

Just weeks ago, the Blackadder legend and racing enthusiast was the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car on Top Gear in an episode to be aired on BBC America this fall. “I’m a pretty slow learner of tracks and cars,” he says in a behind-the-scenes interview you can watch below (spoiler alert). “So I don’t pretend to be able to get into anything and drive them well.” Slightly chilling, considering that Atkinson has crashed his F1 before.

Atkinson drove a $20,000 Kia Cee’d on Top Gear. The estimated worth of his “ultra-rare” McLaren F1, according to The Mirror? $3.2 million.

Thanks to the Top Gear Transmission Blog for the clip.
