7. MI-5 (a.k.a. Spooks, 2002 – )

In an early episode, a lead character gets offed in an absolutely gruesome fashion. (Think of the ways one might die in a McDonalds.) No one is safe in this intelligent spy drama that has seen actors like Matthew Macfadyen, Keeley Hawes, David Oyelowo, Rupert Penry-Jones, Hermione Norris, and yes, Richard Armitage rotate through its ranks. This is true white-knuckle, so-suspenseful-it’s-nauseating drama. (Own it on DVD.)
