Quit Smoking?
Not a Chance,
Says Adele

Everyone has their vice: Drink, running, chocolate, collecting endless amounts of vinyl… the list goes on. As for Adele, well she enjoys her regular ciggy breaks. And she’s not giving them up for anyone or anything. Not even her marvelous, god-given voice.

In the July 2011 issue of British Glamour, the Evening Standard reveals that the English songstress comes clean about her not so healthy habit. While she gave a smoking-free life a chance, in the end the benefits weren’t enough for Adele. And that’s putting it lightly.

“I gave up smoking for two months,” she said. “It was f***ing grim. I had laryngitis about a week before the album came out and it was so frightening. I stopped smoking, drinking, eating or drinking citrus, spicy foods and caffeine. It was so f***ing boring…”

She continued: “When my album went to number one [in the UK] and in America, I just sat in my room and watched telly because I couldn’t go out and talk to anyone! My voice was better when I wasn’t smoking. Within a week I noticed it had changed, but I’d rather my voice be a bit s**t so I can have a f***ing laugh.”

Uh oh, Adele. I doubt some of your faithful American fans are laughing after you just
nixed the last nine dates of your sold-out North American tour. Laryngitis, mhmm.

What a shame – many years ago I answered my phone and someone called me “sir” (I’m a her) – plus the early aging for women who smokes, and the disgusting smell and even worse taste of someone’s lips who smokes, I had to do it after failing many, many times. I was hypnotized 4 times over as many years and the 4th one did the trick. It’s been over 25 years and I still remember the sound of the machines as my father was dying from lung cancer at 50 years old. Reconsider, Adele, it will be the absolutely best thing you could do for yourself and the people who love you.

As one of those people who got canceled on, I can say I’m not laughing about the smoking thing. It took 6 instances of sold out pre-sales and general sales before I even managed to get tickets, and then for it to cancel….

I love her voice, and I think she’s great, but yeah, the “I won’t quit for anything” doesn’t endear her to anyone who was just canceled on.

when you are young your indestructible and carefree, you live for the day. Seen too many of my mates (from Edmonton & Tottenham)think they can smoke and still remain healthy. Adele you have a gift, make it one that lasts and gives you and the people who enjoy what you do a lifetime of pleasure. Some very wealthy people have a crap life because some of the best things in life are free. If you cant give up, cut down. Great music btw.

    Two words, Adele: Sinead O’Connor.

You’re cry listening to her voice in her early years compared to now. I think she still smokes.I think her voice range might have lost a whole octave.

    Be warned.

Wow. What a GREAT example for her young fans. I’ll never stop smoking. So F*** that idea. Wow. Smoking is really bad for you and can cause death ( I know, most of my family died from smoking) An AMAZING and bad for a singers voice and VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY bad for you.

    Please stop Adele.
    Not to be rude.

Adele, I am twelve years old. My mother has just again started to smoke. I am your number one fan I sing your songs every day of life. I love your songs so much. Until I found out you smoked, I have stopped feeling sorry for you. When I found out about your throat surgery, and didn’t know about you smoking I did feel sorry. But I no longer do. You are hurting your body along with your soul. God gave you a gift and you are abusing it. My mother also drinks a lot. If you don’t quit now. You will die sooner than u think. The cigerette you are smoking right now, could be your last.

I really could care less if Adele smokes, that is up to her. Now if it affects her voice and causes her to cancel shows, then you have a problem. In the end, she will pay the price for this. But like I said, I could care less. Do any of you think she cares if you smoke? Do any of you think she cares about your cause? She is an entertainer who is out to sell albums, hopes you buy them and all that comes with it. Nothing more, nothing less.
