The Doctor and Amy Pond are heading back West, this time for San Diego Comic-Con. Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan will make their first-ever appearance at the mega-popular annual event, BBC America has revealed today. On Sunday, July 24, the TARDIS twosome will take part in Doctor Who panel alongside show writer (and Being Human creator) Toby Whithouse and executive producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis.
And the channel has announced that it will bring out the star and creator of the new haunted apartment thriller, Bedlam, set to premiere on BBC America in October. Lead actor Theo James (Downton Abbey) and show creator David Allison will host a Friday, July 22 screening of the Bedlam premiere followed by a discussion and Q&A. They will also do a signing at BBC America’s booth.
Here’s BBC America’s full schedule for Comic-Con — and be sure to follow @anglophenia on Twitter for further updates on this year’s events:
Friday, July 22
5:15-6:15 p.m. BBC America’s Bedlam: Exclusive U.S. Premiere Screening and Q&A – Star Theo James (Underworld 4: New Dawn, Downton Abbey) and creator David Allison (Boy Meets Girl) host a premiere screening event followed by discussion and Q&A. Bedlam Heights, the stylish new apartment building, has sexy tenants and gorgeous decor. But little do the new residents suspect that behind the luxury fittings lay unimaginable horrors. This is a place tainted by abuse, suffering and death – and the ghosts of its dark and violent past are out for revenge. As the direct descendant of those who ran the asylum, Kate (Charlotte Salt, The Tudors) – who both lives and works there – is a prime target. She is surprised by the unexpected arrival of Jed (James) – her adopted cousin. Jed is unique. With a history of mental illness, he’s a troubled man who sees ghosts and visions of the past. Recent messages to ‘Save Kate,’ propel him back into Kate’s life. Can he really ‘Save Kate?’ And from whom, or what, does she need saving? Everybody has a dark side in this new series also starring Ashley Madekwe (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Hugo Speer (Skins) and Will Young (Pop Idol winner, Skins). Bedlam premieres Saturday, October 8, 9:00pm ET/PT on BBC AMERICA’s Supernatural Saturdays. Twitter: @BBCAmerica / #Bedlam.

No Primeval people? Bummer. Any chance you could get some of them to DragonCon instead?
I am so happy to hear this i nearly cried. This is my first time going to comic con and now i cant wait! If only david tennant will be there too.
so my brother who is camping texted me about this its great that he knows me so well and is still connected to the world
This is exciting stuff!!! I wish I could get to go see them! They will be too far away and it is too dangerous to go alone unfortunately! Oh well! It is still awesome news!!!
Oh no! This means all the Anime cos-playing geeks will be in line 24 hours prior so the rest of us cannot see them! I only hope a professional convention company gets the WHO/Torchwood license — we may PAY to see them, but at least we will get to see them!
I can’t wait! But does this mean we have to be in line for Hall H at 7 AM on Sunday to get in there and see the #DoctorWho thing? I hate how you can’t leave Hall H between events since they have a bathroom in Hall H. If you were in Ballroom 20, it would have been so much easier…. I bet #Torchwood will be in Hall H as well….
oh no!!!! they sold out months ago!!! this is the first year i have lived near san diego and could actually go!!!!! My son is the biggest Matt Smith fan out there!! Does anyone know if it’s possible to get tickets to see just them??
I’m really happy to hear this–thrilled and delighted, though disappointed that Moffat isn’t going to be there. Another note of disappointment–no Being Human presence. I’m sorely bummed. Wonder if that’s due to the competition with SciFi’s version. Haven’t heard yet whether SciFi will have a BH panel.
Oh wish I could go! Hope to see tons of footage of the event on BBC America
What a treat to see Matt and Karen!
Now I really can’t wait for CC. Hope they can also get Arthur Darvill to appear. And it would be mega-awesome if they did a signing that afternoon after the panel. It would definitely have to be a ticketed event.
Amanda,
I read that David Tennant is going to be there with the rest of the cast of the ‘Fright Night’ remake.
i saw the pane year before last and it was amazing!!!
edd, i got there about 2 hours before and made it in.
amanda, see you in line!
Awesome news! Don’t suppose there’s any word on Matt and Karen attending Dragon*Con this year?
David Tennant’s in a play in London with Catherine Tate, “Much Ado About Nothing,” so he won’t be coming to Comic-Con. He’ll be at the London premiere of the film though. Matt’s gonna really love being at Comic-Con this year. Wish I could come.
I have an idea for the main idea of a new episode. ,rory, amy and the doctor go back to london where the cybermen appear again and rose was taken with them. the doctor has to choose between amy and rose to live. but the doctor and rory have to do all of the cool stuff and eventually he saves them both and rose goes with the doctor as his mate. like it? i decided this because i really miss rose
Really wish I could attend this year!! FYI, on the Underground Toys website, they have a picture of the SDCC Exclusive figure of River Song with Pandorica Chair that will be available at the convention!!
Oh my. I wish I could go, but I don’t want to come alone or with just a parent. No one I know personally likes Doctor Who, let alone has heard about the show. /:
It seems to become so close almost! I first saw Dr Who in England in ’76 and was so amazed and happy to see it in USA finally! Good luck to all who get to go! I am disabled, no longer have a car, and my mini jag is not allowed on streets! But, that does not stop my love of great Sci Fi!
I would love for them to make an appearance at DragonCon
Or maybe the Doctor Who team could attend Manchester MCM so you can let UK fans come round and maybe help bring tourism to Manchester – one of the key points of the new television centre!
