Matt Smith, Karen Gillan in 'Doctor Who'
The Doctor and Amy Pond are heading back West, this time for San Diego Comic-Con. Doctor Who stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan will make their first-ever appearance at the mega-popular annual event, BBC America has revealed today. On Sunday, July 24, the TARDIS twosome will take part in Doctor Who panel alongside show writer (and Being Human creator) Toby Whithouse and executive producers Piers Wenger and Beth Willis.
And the channel has announced that it will bring out the star and creator of the new haunted apartment thriller, Bedlam, set to premiere on BBC America in October. Lead actor Theo James (Downton Abbey) and show creator David Allison will host a Friday, July 22 screening of the Bedlam premiere followed by a discussion and Q&A. They will also do a signing at BBC America’s booth.

5:15-6:15 p.m. BBC America’s Bedlam: Exclusive U.S. Premiere Screening and Q&A – Star Theo James (Underworld 4: New Dawn, Downton Abbey) and creator David Allison (Boy Meets Girl) host a premiere screening event followed by discussion and Q&A. Bedlam Heights, the stylish new apartment building, has sexy tenants and gorgeous decor. But little do the new residents suspect that behind the luxury fittings lay unimaginable horrors. This is a place tainted by abuse, suffering and death – and the ghosts of its dark and violent past are out for revenge. As the direct descendant of those who ran the asylum, Kate (Charlotte Salt, The Tudors) – who both lives and works there – is a prime target. She is surprised by the unexpected arrival of Jed (James) – her adopted cousin. Jed is unique. With a history of mental illness, he’s a troubled man who sees ghosts and visions of the past. Recent messages to ‘Save Kate,’ propel him back into Kate’s life. Can he really ‘Save Kate?’ And from whom, or what, does she need saving? Everybody has a dark side in this new series also starring Ashley Madekwe (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Hugo Speer (Skins) and Will Young (Pop Idol winner, Skins). They’re bringing with them exclusive new footage from the new episodes airing later this summer on BBC AMERICA. Doctor Who follows the adventures of the Doctor, the mysterious traveler who journeys throughout all of time and space, picking up companions along the way and almost always sidestepping danger.
Doctor Who, from award winning lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, stars BAFTA nominee Matt Smith as the Doctor and Karen Gillan as his companion Amy Pond, along with Arthur Darvill as Rory and Alex Kingston who plays River Song. Part One of the new season, which premiered in April, delivered record ratings for BBC AMERICA and marked the first time Doctor Who filmed on American soil. Its finale ended with the unveiling of a massive secret and the words “Let’s Kill Hitler” on screen. Fans of Doctor Who will find an assortment of contemporary and classic licensed merchandise at Comic Con, available at the BBC AMERICA booth, in addition to officially licensed Doctor Who partners’ booths. The BBC AMERICA booth will also offer fans several product exclusives including: a comic book convention special, the River Song figure, and multiple t-shirt styles. From t-shirts to action figures, Sonic Screwdrivers to comic books, Doctor Who will have something for fans of any age.

I wish BBC America would print the name of the quest at the bottom of the screen, when Jeremy introduces the quest, because he screems the name and I can not understand who the quest is.
Too bad the convention is way down there. There are a lot of people who live up in the North Bay area, who are WHO Fans.
A number of years ago, there was one in San Francisco, & Tom Baker was there.
Iive in Petaluma, where American Graffiti and Peggy Sue Got Married, and a number of other films. Mendocino is where Murder She Wrote, was filmed.
The weather in San Diego is usually really warm, but up here, it is warm, to cool, with cooler nights, and more things to see than down there. Everything was at the show including the Tardis, K-9, and a couple of Daleks. Bigger crowd up in San Francisco!
Great that you all are going to San Diego for Comic Con…, What about coming to Atlanta on Labor Day weekend for DragonCon… All of us on the East Coast would love to see you!
I wish Dr. Who stars would come to Chicago. I met the original Doctor (William Hartnell) in Cornwall when I was a teenager and was already hooked on the series.
I am now retirement age and it has only got better over the years.
We’ll be there with our friend and his great Dalek costume! We’ll keep our fingers crossed we can somehow get Matt Smith to sign it.

I LOVE Doctor Who and I REALLY WANT to go (i’m a BIG fan of Matt Smith <3 to him) but first Utah and then San Diago but I live in Las Vegas so I can't go and I really want to meet the cast. Now for a Meme Comic Con Y U No come to Las Vagas (I can only keep my hopes up). I geass it's my dream to meet the cast of Doctor Who.
