Robbie Williams, Brad Paisley Collaborate for ‘Cars 2′ Soundtrack
Robbie Williams, Brad Paisley
We’ve seen Robbie Williams team up with Kylie Minogue (“Kids”), Nicole Kidman (“Somethin’ Stupid”), Olly Murs (“Angels” on The X Factor in 2009), and of course, Gary Barlow (“Shame”), but now the chart-topping English entertainer is venturing beyond his pop sphere to duet with one of country music’s biggest superstars for the Cars 2 soundtrack.
The Take That singer and Brad Paisley come together on “Collision of Worlds,” an earnest tune touching upon the bond between Mater the Tow Truck (Larry the Cable Guy) and speed demon Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson). The animated family comedy, Pixar’s sequel to the 2006 box office hit, speeds into U.S. theaters on June 24, while the album drops on June 14.
“It’s an international kind of song that’s inspired very much by the film–it wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the story,” Williams said in a statement. “Brad turned up with his guitar and a basic understanding of what he wanted the song to sound like. He played me a few chords and we noodled and twiddled our way into forming this song. It’s back and forth colloquialisms between two different countries speaking the same language and not understanding each other—until now.”
“The song is a rock vocal event with one of the most talented people I’ve ever met, Robbie Williams,” Paisley added “It was John’s [Lassiter, the director] idea to bring these two worlds together — combining the English and American takes on music. We’re both out of our comfort zone, seeing what happens when you’re forced into going new places, which is really what Cars 2 is about. It’s totally parallel to the story.”
Here’s a very brief sneak peek:
