WATCH: Ricky Gervais Leads Comic Roundtable on HBO’s ‘Talking Funny’
Ricky Gervais, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Louis CK (L-R)
Can we just christen HBO “The Ricky Gervais Network” and get it over with? Between his animated series and standup specials, the British comedian’s self-described “big girlie face” has been all over the premium channel in recent months. Now he has a new special set to air April 22 titled Talking Funny.
As we previously reported, the special finds Gervais and fellow millionaire comedians Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Louis CK sitting in a room, comparing notes on the craft of comedy. Topics of discussion include “When is it time to add new material to your act?” and “Who was the first funny kid you ever met?” Imagine Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, Don Rickles, and George Carlin all gathered in a room, circa 1979, musing wittily on the secrets of their success. This is the closest approximation to such a summit we’re gonna get, folks, so soak it up.
Here’s a trailer and a teaser:
