Dame Helen Mirren Says She Won’t Spoof the Queen on ‘SNL’
Dame Helen Mirren
Now that Sir Elton John has left his mark on Saturday Night Live, another fabulous Brit is gearing up for her big entrance on Saturday (April 9).
Dame Helen Mirren has already begun preparations for her hosting debut at 30 Rock. But it sounds like the 65-year-old actress — who just left her famous hand and footprints on Hollywood Boulevard last week — is experiencing some first-time jitters.
“I’m terrified and really excited,” Mirren recently told Extra. “Everybody tells me I’m going to have a blast.”
And while John got jiggy with the Queen (as played by Fred Armisen), Mirren also said that she won’t immerse herself in the role than earned her a Best Actress Oscar in 2006.
Mirren explained: “No, I won’t do the queen. I hope they know that. They probably got 10 skits for me being the queen.”
It’s shaping up to be quite the weekend for our favorite Dame. Her latest film, a remake of the 1981 comedy, Arthur, also starring her BFF Russell Brand, opens in U.S. theaters on Friday (April 8).
