Tribeca Film Festival to Kick Off with Elton John Documentary
Sir Elton John
BBC News reports that a film showcasing Sir Elton John‘s most recent collaboration with American singer/songwriter Leon Russell will launch the 10th annual Tribeca Film Festival on April 20 in New York City.
Directed by Cameron Crowe, The Union offers an in-depth look at the recording process of John and Russell’s 2010 studio album of the same name. John’s longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin makes a cameo, as do Brian Wilson, Neil Young, Booker T. Jones, Robert Randolph and Don Was, all of whom guested on John’s 30th release.
John is scheduled to take to the stage after its premiere and festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal couldn’t be more excited about his appearance. She said, “To have Elton, whose music transcends generations, perform… is an extraordinary gift.”
As previously reported, John and Russell will visit Saturday Night Live on April 2.
