New
‘Doctor
Who’
Season
Premieres April
23 on BBC
America

Big news! Entertainment Weekly has exclusively announced that the new season of Doctor Who is set to premiere Saturday, April 23.

Here’s some more background on the premiere: “Doctor Who is coming to America in a spectacular two-part season premiere on BBC AMERICA. Part One premieres Saturday, April 23. The mysterious time traveler, the Doctor (Matt Smith), and his companions Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill), find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah — right to the Oval Office in 1969. More details will be revealed in the coming weeks about this two-parter penned by ‘Who supremo’ Steven Moffat (Sherlock) and featuring guest star Mark Sheppard (Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica). Also set to return this season, Alex Kingston (ER, Flash Forward), as the irrepressible River Song.”

Oh, and here’s a first look at the awesome new poster for the new season:

Is there any info on whether it will air at the same time in Britain? You know, for all us Americans who’ve made a pilgrimage? ;)

I love the poster. It kind of reminds me of Harry Potter the way the Doctor is holding the sonic screwdriver like a wand and how the poster is lit up. I do like it though. So glad they are showing it in America the same time they are in the UK.

It’s nice to get it the same day and all, but will we still only get 2/3 of the episode?

Artie, since BBCA obtained first run rights to Doctor Who in the US, they have aired every episode uncut on its premier broadcast. Since several episodes last season were actually ran a little short, most of last season’s episodes should have been uncut on every airing (although I confess I did not watch every repeat). Even longer episodes that are sometimes rerun with cuts get uncut repeats from time to time.
