New
‘Doctor
Who’
Season
Premieres April
23 on BBC
America

Big news! Entertainment Weekly has exclusively announced that the new season of Doctor Who is set to premiere Saturday, April 23.

Here’s some more background on the premiere: “Doctor Who is coming to America in a spectacular two-part season premiere on BBC AMERICA. Part One premieres Saturday, April 23. The mysterious time traveler, the Doctor (Matt Smith), and his companions Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill), find themselves on a secret summons that takes them on an adventure from the desert in Utah — right to the Oval Office in 1969. More details will be revealed in the coming weeks about this two-parter penned by ‘Who supremo’ Steven Moffat (Sherlock) and featuring guest star Mark Sheppard (Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica). Also set to return this season, Alex Kingston (ER, Flash Forward), as the irrepressible River Song.”

Oh, and here’s a first look at the awesome new poster for the new season:

I have Dish Network (or at least a Dish Network receiver with whatever service my apt. complex provides) and I get BBC America. So sorry to hear that you don’t, natthebrat.

I just discovered Doctor Who last summer and have now seen all of the episodes from the first 5 seasons several times, but season 6 will be the first time I will watch a season as it airs. I’m very excited! And the fact that the US gets to see the episodes at the same time as the UK is awesome!

To paraphrase the Matt Smith from series 5: “Welcome Back Doctor!!!!!!” I’ve been a fan of the Doctor since discovering the Tom Baker Dr. Thank God we have BBC America now & no longer have to wait for PBS.

I’m looking forward to the new season of Doctor Who more than the royal wedding (by quite a bit). One time pageantry vs. hours of potentially great entertainment. Never really got into the show until a year ago, got caught up on the last three doctors, and I really think Matt Smith is my favorite – and love the supporting cast of Amy, Rory and River Song, not to mention Moffat’s great writing.

I contacted DIRECTV this week and was told there are no plans in the immediate future to get BBC America in HD. The more people that send in comments to DIRECTV the better chance they might do it. The customer service rep that responded to my E-Mail said she would elevate my inquiry to the next level.

Not to offend anyone, but if you had Dish Network, they offer BBCA in HD

I’m so excited. I’ve watched them all from the beginning. Last summer I began my own marithon Doctor Who and found them all in various places with few exceptions. I never realized that it was always this good, even the hoaky days of special effects. I’m impressed with the acting and the high level of intellectualizing of the characters in the older series. It’s very impressive.

What makes any show/movie good to watch is the ability to suspend disbelief. The Doctor makes it easy for me. I watched Doctor Who in the 70′s and loved it back then, which is what brought me back with the most up to date versions over the past 5 years..

It’s cool that the first episode shows on St. George’s day too. ;)

I love the comparison between Dr. Who and Harry Potter. HP was my childhood, Now DW defines my young adult life. It really gives me that same giddy feeling I would get when reading the Harry Potter books! I have seizures, and when I am fixing to go into one that’s been induced by stress, all you have to do is plop me down in front of a Doctor Who episode, and I’m good. Takes away all my stress and worry, at least for a while. I DO wish though that you could get BBC america more easily. :-(
