Helen Mirren Explains Why Ladies Love Russell Brand

Helen Mirren, Russell Brand in 'Arthur'

Dame Helen Mirren has done an absolutely great interview with The Guardian‘s Ryan Gilbey, in which she offers some wisdom about aging. “…There’s a scary moment when you realize you’re no longer the youngest person in the room. Especially if you’ve been a successful young person. That’s followed, of course, by the realization that you’re actually the oldest person in the room.”

But she also gives unmeasured praise to her Tempest and Arthur co-star Russell Brand, explaining his appeal to women. Is it his humor? His dashing good looks? “The penny dropped for me fairly recently with Russell,” she says. “The thing about him is he likes women, and not a lot of men do. That’s why women like him. He’s genuinely interested in us. Women melt in his presence.”

Very interesting. Maybe that’s how he was still able to pull wife Katy Perry, even after making all sorts of innuendo-laden cracks about her when he hosted the VMAs back in ’09. The renowned swordsman…actually likes women. That or the Dame has fallen under his spell…
