Daniel Craig Goes Drag for International Women’s Day
Daniel Craig
Cheers to Daniel Craig! The Daily Mail reports that the dapper English actor has shed his thrill-seeking James Bond persona for a blonde wig, pantyhose and more, all in support of a new UK public service announcement honoring the 100th annual International Women’s Day (March 8).
The two-minute film is narrated by Craig’s fellow 007 castmate Dame Judi Dench. As the voice of M, a role she’s portrayed since 1995′s GoldenEye, Dench calls attention to numerous social and professional differences faced by women all around the world. English filmmaker Sam Taylor-Wood (Nowhere Boy) directed the clip for the EQUALS coalition.
“Despite great advances in women’s rights, statistics show that when it comes to the balance of power between the sexes, equality is far from being a global reality,” Taylor-Wood said in a statement. “As ‘M’ reminds Bond, facing up to gender issues and the sometimes covert nature of sexism in the 21st century is something that we all have to recognize, confront and challenge.”
