WATCH: Trailer for ‘Arthur,’ Starring Russell Brand and Helen Mirren

Russell Brand in 'Arthur'

Russell Brand is clearly competing with Ricky Gervais for the title of “Outrageous British Funnyman Most Likely to Be Everywhere at Any Given Point.” This week, the trailer for the computer-animated Hop, in which Russell voices a teenage rabbit, was released. And the comedian is also prepping to laff it up as host of Saturday Night Live tomorrow night (February 12).

Now a trailer for Brand’s eagerly-awaited Arthur remake has been dropped to the Interwebs. In the film, set for an April release, Mr. Katy Perry takes on the part of the wealthy, booze-swilling playboy immortalized in the 1981 original by the late, great Dudley Moore, while Dame Helen Mirren portrays Arthur’s loyal nanny. (In the original, this role was a male valet and was played by Sir John Gielgud, who won an Oscar for his brilliantly deadpan asides.) Greta Gerwig and Jennifer Garner also star.

What do you think? I think Russell’s in desperate need of facial hair, to be quite frank. Here’s the trailer (via Deadline):

While not British himself - he was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri - he once received inordinate hospitality in London for sharing the name of a dead but beloved EastEnders character. His Anglophilia stems from a high school love of Morrissey, whom he calls his "gateway drug" into British culture.
