WATCH: New Trailer Released for Kate Winslet ‘Mildred Pierce’ Remake
Kate Winslet in 'Mildred Pierce'
HBO has released a second trailer for their remake of the classic film noir melodrama Mildred Pierce. The 1945 version, based on James M. Cain‘s novel, won Joan Crawford her first and only Best Actress Oscar. In the new version, set to be a five-part miniseries premiering March 27, British star Kate Winslet dusts off her American accent to play the title character, a housewife who struggles to build a life to support her vain, selfish daughter Veda (Evan Rachel Wood).
If the trailer is any sign, the remake appears to have all the sex they couldn’t show in the 1945 version, with Winslet and co-star Guy Pearce tumbling together in dimly lit love scenes. Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven, I’m Not There) directs, and current Oscar nominee Melissa Leo (The Fighter) also stars.
