Robert Pattinson, Jeff Buckley

Um, ok this is kind of absurd. NME is reporting that English actor Robert Pattinson is being considered to portray the late American singer/songwriter Jeff Buckley in a forthcoming biopic.

Seriously, this is as bizarre as R-Pattz being touted to play Nirvana‘s Kurt Cobain. Remember that drama last year? Courtney Love finally called the idea “stupid” and Pattinson supposedly lashed out in response, calling her a “d**k”.

Anyhow, I know the London-born star of the Twilight movie franchise can sing a bit and play guitar and piano. I’m not dismissing his talent whatsoever. But him as Buckley? He’s apparently “obsessed” with landing the role, but I just don’t see it.

Film producer Michelle Sy, whose name has long been attached to the film, previously mentioned that whoever is lucky enough to portray Buckley “should be able to play guitar and sing.”

Buckley’s critically-acclaimed debut album, Grace, has long been considered to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time. It received high praise from the likes of David Bowie and Led Zeppelin‘s Jimmy Page upon its 1994 release. His cover of Leonard Cohen‘s “Hallelujah” is timeless, as is his final collection of songs, 1998’s Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk. He was just 30 years old when he accidentally drowned in 1997.

Do you think Robert Pattinson should play Jeff Buckley?
