Christmas was especially joyous this year for Sir Elton John and husband David Furnish. Their son, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, was born to a surrogate mother in California on December 25, Us magazine exclusively reports.
“We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment,” John and Furnish said in a statement. “Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents.”
A representative speaking for the couple maintained that the identity of the mother would not be revealed and any additional details pertaining to the surrogacy would not be discussed.
Last fall, John, 63, and Furnish, 48, looked into adopting a 14-month-old Ukrainian boy with HIV named Lev. But country officials deemed John “too old” and said his and Furnish’s civil union, which they made legal in Britain in 2005, would not be “recognized as a marriage in Ukraine”.
Congratulations to Elton and David!
